The Number of schools is steadily increasing: 3
new cornerstones
The cornerstone ceremony for a new school, comparable to the ground
breaking ceremony, is a solemn yet cheerful and moving moment every
time. It carries great importance for the Governors of various
districts, the children, and for us, too, because it means new and
urgently needed education facilities for many children. From January
to March 2003, 3 buildings could be started thanks to the financial
support of charitable institutions and private people.
The "Sir-Peter-Ustinov-School for Peace"
is situated about 50 km to the north of Kabul within the Paghman
district. Sir Peter Ustinov, ambassador of UNICEF, and his own
charity finance the school. In the springof 2004 about 1,000 pupils
will be educated there. The UNICEF "Gesamtschule Sir Peter Ustinov"
of Monheim is sponsoring the school. (more)
The "Bonita-Foundation " is financing
the "Bonita School for Peace" for 800 children
in the district of Mamandara (160 km north-east of Kabul).
The "Duschl School for Peace" is being built 120 km to the
east of Kabul, within the district of Khidikel. Presumably starting
in the autumn of 2003, classes will begin for 800 children. The
school building is financed by the estate of pharmacist Duschl from
Moosburg,Germany. .
